WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA/WNCN) – Deputies have arrested a 17-year-old on solicitation and indecent liberties with a minor charges in Wayne County.
According to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a mother went to deputies on Nov. 28 and reported that her child daughter had been talking to an unknown male, and said the chats had become sexual in nature.
Special Victims Unit detectives started investigating the case and developed Riley Kennington, 17, of Spartanburg, South Carolina as the suspect, officials said.
Detectives went to Spartanburg and, along with Spartanburg County deputies, interviewed Kennington.
Following the interview, the Wayne County District Attorney’s Ofice decided charges should be filed against Kennington.
Kennington was charged with indecent liberties with a minor and solicitation of a child by computer to commit a sex act.
According to the release, an investigation revealed that Kennington never came to North Carolina and all contact was via the internet.
Spartanburg County deputies arrested Kennington on Thursday.
He was transported to the Wayne County Jail on Monday after waiving extradition.
Kennington is being held on $60,000 bond, pending a trial.
