GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – A mother and a stepfather were arrested Tuesday after Wayne County deputies said they found a teen girl naked near North Carolina Highway 55 on Monday.
Ryan H. Montague, 28, and Tehran R. Richard, 40, both of Seven Springs, were charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said that a citizen called 911 and informed that he had found a girl on N.C. 55 near Seven Springs on Monday.
The girl was found unclothed, deputies said. The teen told deputies she was lost and she appeared to be confused.
Deputies, along with Wayne County EMS, responded to the scene.
The girl was transported to Wayne UNC Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Deputies said the girl later told them that she was kidnapped.
The Special Victim’s Unit was called to assist the investigation and interviewed the juvenile.
Investigators said the girl had not been kidnapped.
An investigation showed the assault and abuse came from her mother and stepfather.
The girl was placed with a family member for her safety.
The Wayne County Department of Social Services was notified and is involved in the case.
Montague and Richard were arrested at their residence in Seven Springs on Tuesday.
Both of them were sent to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office and received a $5,000 bond.
