An Albuquerque man threatened to stab someone over a box of cereal, officials say.
According to a criminal complaint, a loss prevention officer noticed 25-year-old Shawn Wason trying to steal the cereal and a carton of milk at the Smith’s on Coors and Central last month.
The officer planned to give Wason a verbal warning, but Wason took out a pocket knife and threatened to stab the guy if he did not let him go.
Police later arrested Wason.
In court over the weekend, the state filed a motion to keep him behind bars until trial.
“This case will be transferred over to District Court. A District Court judge will hear the state’s motion so you will be held in custody until that time, Mr. Wason,” said Judge Christine Rodriguez.
Wason is facing an aggravated assault charge.
