CANTON, Mass. (WPRI) - A man is charged with sexually assaulting a woman with dementia while working as a nurse practitioner at a Massachusetts assisted living facility.
Frank Palin, 67, was arrested Sunday following the alleged incident at Cornerstone at Canton on Revere Street.
According to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News, Palin was caught on camera inappropriately touching the alleged victim and asking her a question of a sexual nature. The report states the woman appeared to be "in distress throughout the duration of the encounter."
The woman has been a resident of the facility's memory care unit for about two years and since October has been under the care of Palin's employer, Old Colony Hospice.
About two months ago, her family installed a video camera inside her room so they could check on her in real time, according to the report. They contacted police on Saturday after reviewing the footage from that morning and seeing the alleged incident.
Palin was arraigned Monday on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over age 65. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family members, to stay away from the Old Colony Hospice and Cornerstone Facilities, and to have no employment or volunteer work with the elderly or disabled while on bail.
He's due back in court July 30 for a pretrial conference.
Palin is currently the chairman of the Coventry Fire District Board. The minutes show he attended the last meeting earlier this month.
