WASHINGTON (WNCN) – Multiple Washington, D.C. media outlets are reporting that the White House was locked down Friday afternoon after a man set his jacket on fire near the north gate.

The Secret Service initially said on Twitter that it was responding to a “police/medical incident” near the north gate. It later said in an update that a man operating an electronic wheelchair “lit his outer jacket on fire” while sitting along Pennsylvania Avenue.

Officers responded, extinguished the fire, and rendered first aid, the Secret Service said. The man was taken to a local hospital with “what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.”
