NC A&T University lockdown lifted after gunman detained, officials say

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – NC A&T University in Greensboro alerted students to take cover for about two hours Friday afternoon after an armed man threatened to shoot a female student, the school said.

A lockdown started just after 1 p.m., when the University issued a number of tweets saying a suspect was seen in the area of Aggie Stadium after threatening the student with a firearm.

Just after 3 p.m., the lockdown was lifted.

“A suspect has now been detained by police. The lockdown is lifted, and students, faculty and staff are free to move about campus,” NC A&T University officials said.

Bennett College activated a lockdown as a precaution to the NC A&T lockdown. Students at Bennett were told to shelter in place.

Earlier NC A&T officials said a man “threatened to shoot a female student.”

An NC A&T spokesperson told WFMY the last day of classes was Thursday. There were still students on campus as well as staff.
