NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – A New Hanover County couple is behind bars, accused of luring a woman to their home, assaulting her with pepper spray, and lighting her hair on fire late Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said Christopher Scott Farmer, 31, convinced the victim to come to his home in the 5400 block of Sidbury Road around 10:30 p.m. so the mother of his child, Muriel Jquanna Hansley, could confront the woman. The spokesperson said the two women had a prior disagreement.

Hansley, 33, beat the woman up, pepper sprayed her, and lit her hair on fire.

The victim managed to get away during the altercation and went to the hospital where she called 911. The victim is expected to be OK, according to the sheriff’s office spokesperson.

Deputies later arrested the couple at the Sidbury Road home and charged Hansley with second-degree kidnapping and malicious use of an explosive with injury. She was given a $150,000 bond.

Farmer was charged with felony conspiracy and booked under a $250,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
