MCDOWELL COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – McDowell County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for the driver of a vehicle who shot at a trucker during a road rage incident Monday afternoon.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, the suspect and the driver of a tractor-trailer were involved in an incident on Interstate 40 eastbound at around noon.

Deputies said one driver cut off another driver and an exchange occurred.

Both the car and the tractor-trailer took the Exit 86 off-ramp and at the traffic light, the driver of the tractor-trailer approached the car.

After the tractor-trailer driver moved back to his rig, the driver of the car fired shots at the truck, hitting the truck in the front.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the incident.

The suspect is described as a man with short hair and a beard. The suspect’s vehicle believed to be a mid-2000s model blue two-door Honda Civic.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Honda was possibly bought within the last 30 days because the vehicle was displaying a temporary tag at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle is asked to call Det. Van Williams at 828-652-2237 or McDowell County Crime Stoppers at 65-CRIME
