NC health officials report 21 flu-related deaths last week – 98 for the season

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A total of 21 people died last week from a flu-related illness, North Carolina Health officials said.

That brings the season’s total number of deaths to 98.

Health officials say to avoid catching the flu, get vaccinated each year and practice good hand hygiene.

Flu symptoms include:

  • A 100 degrees or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with the flu has a fever)
  • A cough and/or sore throat
  • A runny or stuffy nose
  • Headaches and/or body aches
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children)
