CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a woman who was shot and killed in north Charlotte Thursday evening was an innocent bystander.
The incident happened just after 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of North Tryon Street and East 28th Street. Investigators say they believe the victim – identified as 27-year-old Kendal Ryan Crank – was driving on 28th Street when she was caught in the crossfire of other people shooting.
Police say witnesses reported several males shooting at each other near the intersection just before Crank was hit.
The woman’s car rolled to a stop and whoever was shooting left the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed no one was taken into custody. No possible suspect information has been made public.
North Tryon Street was closed for some time between 27th Street and 30th Street while investigators processed the scene.
