NC son kills father while protecting mom on Christmas Eve, deputies say

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A 20-year-old Marine shot and killed his father while protecting his mother during a domestic violence incident reported in Greenville on Christmas Eve, deputies said.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on Old River Road in Greenville in reference to a shooting reported on Christmas Eve around 6 p.m.

Deputies arrived on the scene and said they found a man dead.

According to an investigation, there was a domestic violence incident happening before the shooting.

The victim was shot three times by his 20-year-old son, Gejuan Chance, during an argument, deputies said.

The victim was identified as 44-year-old George T. Chance.

Deputies said Gejuan was protecting his mother. Gejuan is currently serving in the Marines.

In the past, there were several domestic violence events but the law enforcement was never called, deputies said.

There were children at the home at the moment of the shooting.

No charges are expected, officials said Friday.
