NC student says sub teacher threatened class to ‘kill all of you’

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (CNN Newsource/WSOC) — An threat was made last week in a North Carolina classroom, officials say.

But the intimidating remarks weren’t from a student, but instead from a substitute teacher.

Tanikka Hough got a strange text from her son Thursday while he was in school.

“The teacher threatened us she said she was gonna kill us,” mom Tanikka Hough said. “I said ‘stop playing’, he said ‘I’m not playing’,” Hough said.

She read the rest of their exchange out loud to a WSOC-TV reporter.

“‘She just told the class that she was gonna kill us, she’s a sub,” Tanikka Hough said, reading from the text.

The mom said ‘Why did she say that?’

“She was mad at the class because they was talking and she said ‘I’m tired of this s**’ and she said ‘y’all real teacher will be back before next month, thank God, because I’m about to kill all of you,’ she was like tell the police, your momma, I don’t care.'”

“So what did you do then?” WSOC-TV asked.

“I said ‘I’m on the way’,” the mother said.

Tanikka and her aunt Linda Hough went straight to the school where they say they were told other concerned parents had been calling — and the situation was being handled.

“We were told that she admitted that she lost it, she did lose control,” aunt Linda Hough said.

The Richmond County School District confirmed the incident was reported to a school resource officer saying it “was just a poor choice of words used by a substitute who will no longer be allowed to sub for our district.”

But the Hough family says that is not good enough.

“What if you reversed it around what if it was a kid telling everyone in the classroom that? The kid would’ve been arrested and put out of the school system, so when you have an educator doing this, what are we gonna do about that?” aunt Linda Hough said.

“It was heartbreaking, I just feel like something should be done,” said mom Tanikka Hough.

The school resource officer contacted the district attorney who said there were no grounds to move ahead with charges.
