SHALOTTE, N.C. (WECT) — A Brunswick County teacher was put on administrative leave with pay effective Monday after her arrest for several sex offenses involving a minor.
According to arrest warrants, Kathleen Antonina Capitano, 24, a math teacher at Shallotte Middle School, was arrested Saturday in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was charged with four counts of soliciting a child under the age of 15 by a computer.
Warrants allege she exposed her genitals to the child online on four occasions: Jan. 30, 2015, Feb. 26, 2015, Dec. 2, 2015, and Feb. 2, 2016.
Fairfax County officials said Capitano arrived at hotel in Herndon, Virginia on Saturday at around 1 p.m. to meet up with the 13-year-old boy to engage in sex. Capitano was taken in custody.
Officials say they met with the child’s parents prior to Capitano’s arrival.
During the initial investigation, officials determined that Capitano met the boy while she was a student teacher at Coates Elementary in Herndon in 2015. The case is still under investigation and more charges are possible.
Jessica Swencki, spokesperson for Brunswick County Schools, said Capitano will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Capitano was hired on August 18, 2015.Copyright 2016 WECT. All rights reserved.
