Around 9:10 a.m., Greensboro Police arrived at a home at 1206 Valley View St. and found two dogs lying beside the toddler. One of the dogs was shot by a Greensboro Police Officer for the child’s safety. The other dog escaped before being found by animal control, where it will stay while the case is investigated.

Police the dogs belonged to the next door neighbor. Neighbors and police tried to get the dogs off the toddler, but were unsuccessful. The dog’s owner is being cooperative with them and they’re still determining whether or not a crime was committed.

Police said the dogs weren’t fenced in and they’re working to see if the dogs have attacked in the past. It’s not known if they broke out of the house.

The boy, who police say is between 1 to 2 years old, was taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital where he’s in critical, but stable condition.
