WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A toddler was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car in a driveway around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, the father of the 17-month-old was backing out of the driveway to take another child to school when the toddler ran out of the house and in the path of the car.

As of Thursday morning, the toddler was in stable condition.

No charges have been filed.

Neighbors say there is heavy traffic in the area.

“Always have in mind that accidents happen in seconds, so always look out for your little one because if you don’t hear them, you know they’re up to something,” said Marisol Gomez. “You just have to always be watching them, no matter what. … You have to really be on them all the time.”
