NC trio assaulted, kidnapped pair in dispute over drugs, deputies say

NEWPORT, N.C. (WNCT) – Three Carteret County residents were arrested Monday and charged with kidnapping and assaulting two people in Newport in a  dispute over money and illegal drugs, officials say.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office says on the morning of Friday, April 19, detectives began investigating a kidnapping after a man called 911.

The man said he escaped from the home of Dennis Franklin Graham on Carl Garner Road in Newport, where he and a female were bound with duct tape and held against their will, deputies said.

Detectives say the two victims, Shawn Marshall, 25, and Brittany Katen, 27, were assaulted with a handgun, shotgun, and razor knife, and bound with duct tape in a dispute over money and drugs the three suspects said the pair had stolen from them.

Terrance Lee Jones, 28, of Gosling Lane, Beaufort was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of sexual battery and is being held on a $175,000 bond.

Cade Russell Jones, 28, of Old Winberry Road, Newport was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of assault by pointing a gun and is being held on a $1 million bond (non-related charged included).

Thomas Wayne Willis, 41, of Earl Avenue, Beaufort was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and is being held on an $85,000 bond.

Carteret County detectives are still investigating the kidnapping and assault and say more suspects may be arrested in this case.
