NC trio charged with ‘going armed to terror of the public’ after SKS rifle taken into gym

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WFMY) — Three men are facing charges after being accused of brandishing an assault-style rifle at a gym in Burlington, police say.

Officers were dispatched to the Broad Street Gym on Thursday after a 911 call about a disturbance inside the facility.

Police said the men left and came back in with a rifle and waved the weapon in front of other patrons of the gym and then left. 

Responding officers stopped the car immediately and detain the three men inside. Police say they also confiscated an SKS rifle during the investigation. 

There were no shots fired nor were there any injuries as a result of this incident, officers report.

They were arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public. 

The three facing charges are: Jaquin Mondrel Smith, 23, of Ramseur, Odis Taquon Covington, 25, of Asheboro and Myquail Myquis Watts, 24, of Ramseur.

They each received a $1,000 secured bond on the charge.
