NC woman charged after 5-year-old dies following incident at Myrtle Beach resort

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach police and firefighters responded to a possible drowning call involving a child Friday night at an area beach-front resort, police said.

The call came in around 9 p.m. at the Ocean Reef Resort at 7100 Ocean Boulevard, according to Cpl. Thomas Vest with the Myrtle Beach Police Department. 

According to Christopher Dontell with the Horry County Coroner’s office, a 5-year-old child later died at a nearby hospital. 

Lortoria Shantel Pittman, 29, of Elm City, North Carolina has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child in connection with the incident.

Pittman was released Saturday morning after a judge issued her a $7,500 personal recognizance bond.
