WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) — A Wilmington woman was charged with arson and breaking or entering in connection to two bizarre incidents Sunday morning.

According to Frank Meyer with New Hanover County Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched to Sellars Cove condos off Carolina Beach Road around 6:40 a.m. for a fire alarm activation.

Crews found no signs of a fire when they arrived but did discover three fire extinguishers had been removed and appeared to be tampered with.

Firefighters talked with residents who gave a description of the suspect to authorities.

While crews were still on scene at Sellars Cove, another call came at 8:25 a.m. about an outside fire that was at a nearby business in the 6100 block of Carolina Beach Road.

When crews arrived at the scene, a deputy had used a fire extinguisher to put out a debris fire near a dumpster behind Martin Boat & RV storage. According to Sgt. Augst with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the fire damaged part of a building at the location.

The suspect allegedly broke into a 17-foot Boston Whaler boat during the incident.

Augst said investigators obtained surveillance video that showed a woman carrying a red gas container and going behind the dumpster.

Wilmington police spotted the woman, 42-year-old Bridget Gail Deason, on Audubon Road in Wilmington around 10:30 a.m. and took her into custody.

Deason was charged with arson/burning certain buildings and breaking or entering a motor vehicle. She was also cited with tampering with fire extinguishers and tampering with a fire alarm.

She was booked into the New Hanover County Jail under a $10,000 bond.

Augst said investigators could not give a motive behind the alleged incidents.Copyright 2016 WECT. All rights reserved.
