JACKSON, N.C. (WNCN) — Twenty-four of 26 cases of COVID-19 that have been reported in Northampton County are all linked to the same facility, county health officials said in a news release.
Five cases had been reported in the county before this weekend. As of Sunday afternoon, there are now 26 cases in Northampton County. Health officials said there were 20 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday and one on Sunday. On Saturday, health officials said of the county’s then 25 cases, “all but one case is linked to a single facility within the county,” the health department said.
The one person whose case was not connected to the facility had traveled out of state and is currently being isolated at their home.
The health department did not specify the facility where the 24 cases were discovered.
All of the newly confirmed people “are cooperating with isolation restrictions since being tested and are asymptomatic,” the release states.
The health department said they are using contact tracing and will notify anyone if they may have been at risk of being in contact with any of the 26 people who have COVID-19.
On Sunday, health officials said the 26th reported case was unrelated to the 24 positive cases from the one facility and that the person had traveled out of state. The 26th person “was tested by a private provider and was reported” to the county on Sunday. “This individual is in isolation and doing well,” according to the release.
As of Monday, two of the 24 from the one facility “will be deemed recovered as they will have been asymptomatic for seven plus days based on CDC guidelines,” the release says.
More tests have been done and the department is waiting for those results.
There are at least 1,167 cases of coronavirus in North Carolina and at least five people have died, according to state statistics last updated on Sunday.
