AYDEN, N.C. (WNCN) - Three people were killed in a two-car crash in Pitt County on Friday afternoon.
The deadly wreck happened on N.C. 102 about seven miles east of Ayden.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol received the call around 1:56 p.m. Friday.
Troopers say one vehicle was heading west on N.C. 102 when it ran across the center line and overcorrected, eventually going off the road on the right and flipping over multiple times.
The occupants of that car, 91-year-old Eugene Fleming and 89-year-old Geraldine Fleming of Grifton, both died.
As the vehicle driven by Fleming exited the road, it side-swiped another vehicle that had pulled onto the shoulder.
The driver of that car was struck and killed while he walked on the shoulder of the road. Troopers identified the man as 53-year-old Charles Garris Jr. of Washington, N.C.
Troopers say they don't suspect alcohol played a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
