CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Stolen SUV crashes after NC chase, 4 detained, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Four people were taken into custody after a crash involving a stolen vehicle in north Charlotte, police said.

The incident ended just after 3 p.m. on Wondering Oak Lane, near Old Statesville Road.

WBTV’s Sky3 was over the scene as a black SUV with open doors and still in drive - which had already been abandoned by the suspects - appeared to crash into the side of a home, then through a fence in the backyard.

The vehicle then came to rest after rolling down an embankment into woods behind the home.

Police along with K9 officers could be seen searching the area and putting at least three people in handcuffs in the neighborhood.

CMPD said the car was stolen in Huntersville a few days ago. A license plate reader hit in south Charlotte alerted police to the vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center was able to follow the SUV through south Charlotte until officers attempted to pull the vehicle over.

When the SUV keep driving, CMPD started tracking the vehicle's movements from Snoopy, the department’s helicopter.

Three adults and a child, under the age of 16, were arrested, according to the CMPD at the scene.
