Group honors 2 NC babies and dad who died in crash

HILDEBRAN, N.C. (WBTV) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate a crash that left three people dead, including two babies.

Troopers say 21-year-old Cody Myers, his 4-month-old daughter Piper Myers, and 17-month-old Adaline Hullette all died after a crash Wednesday along Henry River Road.

Friday, Tender Care Daycare Center held a balloon release for the three. Both Piper and Adaline attended the daycare up until Tuesday.

“The children were just here the day before, and when they went home that day, no one knew they were not coming back,” said Sue Craig, the Director of Tender Care. “When you go in there and see an empty crib or an empty cot, it is really hard. It has been an emotional experience for everybody.”

Craig has worked at the daycare for nearly two decades and remembers when Cody Myers was a child there.

“We just want everyone to realize how precious life is,” said Cochran.

The employees released balloons Friday morning with the other children to honor the three that were killed.

“I was with them more than my own kids. They were just so loving and had the biggest smiles on their face,” said Kimberly Williams, who cared for Piper and Adaline. “It has been awful. It has been so hard coming in and knowing they are supposed to be coming through that door.”

Flowers now sit in Piper Myers's empty crib.

“It is hard to come in here and not see them,” said Williams.

Cody Myers' mother still works at the daycare, so her co-workers are doing everything they can to support the family.

“It is family, we are family here, they are just family,” said Sandy Gross, who works at the daycare. “Just to be taken so soon... it is heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking.”

A vigil was planned Friday night at Cody Myers' church where the youth group planned to come together and pray.

“It has been a lot, but we have just come together and leaned on each other, and that is getting us through it,” said Craig.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

Arrangements have not been made but the family says they will have one service for all three.
