CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - Officials in Concord have arrested a man accused of carjacking a woman Tuesday.
According to a report, police received a call at 6:36 a.m. from the Archdale Police Department saying they were with a woman who was reporting she was carjacked from a gas station in Concord.
The incident happened at the QuikTrip in the 300 block of George W. Liles Parkway.
Officials say an investigation revealed Dustin Ray Bowman and a female acquaintance forced the victim into her car and drove away with her still inside.
The suspects drove the victim north on Interstate 85 and left her with the vehicle on the side of the road in Archdale. During the drive on I-85, Bowman sexually assaulted the victim, the report stated.
A further investigation revealed that Bowman and his acquaintance were involved in a crash on I-85 at 11:03 p.m. Monday. The two were dropped off by a wrecker company at the QuikTrip around midnight, police say.
According to interviews, officials say the suspects were wanting to "get back towards the Winston-Salem area." The two remained at the gas station until 3 a.m. when the crime occurred.
Warrants were issued for Bowman for first-degree kidnapping, first-degree forcible sex offense and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday officers located and arrested Bowman at his home in Archdale. The acquaintance's role in the incident remains under investigation.
