Pilot walks away from plane crash near Louisburg

News

A pilot is expected to be OK after his aircraft went down Thursday at an airport in Franklin County officials said.

Maurice Evans, 45, of Louisburg, was in training for takeoffs and landings. It was his third solo flight.

The plane went down into a wooded area around 4 p.m. at the Triangle North Executive airport, which is located at 440 Airport Rd. just off U.S. 401 near Louisburg.

The engine stalled out as he was turning. The aircraft’s wings appear to be torn off but the pilot walked away and is expected to be OK.

The FAA has taken over the investigation.
