The shooting, that left one person dead, happened in the 6200 block of Albemarle Road, according to police. Albemarle Road was shut down between Farm Pond Lane and Sharon Amity Road for a time.

According to CMPD, an undercover police vehicle was in traffic when a vehicle with two people inside side-swiped the vehicle and then refused to stop. The detective followed the driver and called in the incident to CMPD.

The driver of the second vehicle then stopped and got out of the car with a handgun, according to CMPD.

“Shots were fired from the undercover detective, unfortunately striking and killing the driver,” Deputy Chief Jeff Estes said.

Estes said the incident was an apparent case of road rage.

According to police, the driver was a Hispanic male, his identity has not been released. The officer was also Hispanic, CMPD said.

CMPD said their thoughts “are with all involved.”

No officers were hurt.
