RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Raleigh woman was hit over the head, thrown to the ground and mugged – all just feet from where she lives.

“All you’ve taken away is my little bit of security,” said the victim, Annie Nice.

Nice is still shaken up talking about the mugging that sent her to the hospital. It happened at 8 p.m. Tuesday on East Davie Street in downtown Raleigh. Nice said she was just walking from her car at the time.

“It felt like a piano has fallen out of the sky and hit me over the head. You know it’s unbelievable,” Nice said.

Nice said after the attack she couldn’t get up. She yelled for help and a neighbor came to her aid. A surgical brace and some bruises are a reminder of what she has endured.

Nice said the thieves got away with a bag, the contents inside her wallet, her phone and green card. According to the police report, it was all valued at $240.

Nice is well-known in the area. She was part owner of Tir Na Nog and has organized a lot of local events.

A GoFundMe page set up Wednesday for her has already raised more than $9,500. Nice said she’s incredibly grateful.

Now she’s hoping police will arrest the three thieves.

“I hope they’re caught. I want my day in court with them. I want their parents to know what they do at night when they’re out,” Nice said.
