Authorities say an Asheville boy’s murder remains unsolved almost a month after he was killed in a double shooting that also wounded a teen.

Asheville-Buncombe Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the homicide of Derrick Lee Jr.

The 12-year old boy and an 18-year-old were shot in the early morning hours of July 1.

Asheville police officers found the victims in Lee Walker Heights. Both were taken to a hospital where Lee later died.

Investigators previously told WSPA the victims were shot after a party.

Lee’s family said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“My brother was goofy, he was silly, he just liked making people laugh,” said Lee’s older sister Aaliyah Dobson.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that no suspects are in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1000, or Asheville-Buncombe Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.
