Rock slide closes highway in NC mountains


HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN) – A rock slide closed all lanes for a stretch of Interstate 40 in Haywood County, according to an alert Friday night.

The rock slide occurred around mile marker 7.5. The incident happened around 7:34 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. 

Drivers are being advised to follow the directions of on-scene law enforcement. NCDOT expects the highway to completely reopen around 4 p.m. Saturday.
