‘Seemed like thousands,’ NC mom says as 20 shots sprayed into family’s home

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WFMY) — High Point police are searching for who’s responsible for shooting into a home at least 20 times.

The incident happened Sunday night around 10 p.m. at a home on Franklin Avenue.

Police said a family was home at the time of the shooting, but no one was hurt.

WFMY spoke with the family of four: a grandmother, parents and their teenage son. They didn’t want to reveal their names for fear of their safety.

“Me and my family were just doing normal family things and out of nowhere just gunshots, just thousands of them it seems like but according to the police maybe only 30,” one family member said.

The family is moving out of the home because they don’t feel like their neighborhood is safe anymore, saying shootings happen often.

“We’re thankful no one was hurt and that we were able to make it out safely with things that are going on in the community where people have actually died so I thank God that we didn’t have to deal with that tragedy.”

The family says there were near-misses. The mother says her husband was in the living room when the shooting happened and he had to duck.

“I was in my room, thank God me and my son, but my husband was in my the living room But you know he said he heard something and got down so a near miss I mean the fact that he was in the living room where they were shooting is a near miss enough for me.”

Bullets were able to puncture through their brick house, and even hit the living room couch.

“Windows, the couch was shot, furniture, my curtains that were hanging up, the blinds, but to me those things are materialistic my life means so much more than that.”

High Point Police Officers say they found approximately 20 5.56 and 9 mm shell casings in and around the Franklin Avenue home.
