CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) – Senators Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and John McCain (R-AZ) have made a friendly wager based on the outcome of Sunday’s NFC Championship game between the Panthers and Cardinals.

According to a press release from Sen. Tillis’ office, the senators have wagered the delivery of a humbling speech on the Senate floor. The wager requires the Senator representing the losing team to deliver a speech congratulating the NFC Champion and wishing them a Super Bowl victory.

Those words of humility, the release says, will be forever memorialized in the Senate record. The bet also requires the Senator representing the losing team to wear a tie of the NFC Champion’s team colors during the speech.

“Although I appreciate the support the Cardinals offense provided in helping me win my fantasy football league this year, their luck is going to end against the best defense in the league…,” Tillis said. “I’m looking forward to serving as the presiding officer of the Senate as Sen. McCain delivers his speech detailing the Panthers’ historic season, the amazing play of their MVP quarterback, and the incredible leadership of the NFL’s coach of the year.”

“Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wrote recently that the Cardinals ‘broke the mold of what kind of football people expect to be played in the desert’ and I have no doubt they will continue to exceed expectations this Sunday against the Panthers,” McCain said. “I confidently look forward to Sen. Tillis opining on the greatness of the Arizona Cardinals next week on the floor of the U.S. Senate.”

The game kicks off in Charlotte at 6:40 p.m.
