ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN/WFMY) — Parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway were closed Sunday, but not because of the Easter holiday.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Facebook page shared a post Sunday that showed snow, ice and downed trees covering part of a road just south of Asheville.
The post said that “several sections of the Parkway” were shut down.
Snow was seen on Saturday and was expected overnight into Easter Sunday at the highest elevations.
At Beech Mountain on Saturday afternoon, snow mixed with rain was falling
At Cold Mountain, North Carolina, there was a dusting of new snow. At Roan Mountain, which is just a mile from the North Carolina border in Tennessee, several inches of snow were seen Saturday with more possible.
The post from the Blue Ridge Parkway reads “Spring weather sure can be fickle here in the mountains. Several sections of the Parkway are closed due to snow, ice and downed trees. Please check the real-time road map before heading out on the Parkway.”
