A 1-year-old girl died after police say her adoptive father unintentionally left her inside a pickup truck at their Nashville, Tennessee home Wednesday.
Metro police said the little girl was left in her car seat inside the truck at the family’s home on Virginia Avenue after Matt Barker dropped a 5-year-old sibling off at daycare.
Police said Barker returned to the home around 8 a.m. and left a few minutes later for the airport in a rideshare.
Police said Barker flew out of Nashville on a business trip and his wife went to work.
When Barker’s wife, Jenny, went to pick up the children from daycare on Wednesday evening, she was told her 1-year-old daughter, Katera, was never dropped off.
Jenny Barker called her husband and came to the realization that the little girl was still in the pickup truck.
She called 911 at 5:42 p.m. as she pulled into her driveway.
Police said the adoptive mother removed Katera from the truck and began CPR until paramedics arrived.
The little girl was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police said Matt Barker flew back to Nashville late Wednesday night and that he and his wife have been fully cooperative with the investigation.
No charges have been filed.
