Deputies: Sex offender captured in Florida after raping woman, throwing her off bridge

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - A sex offender accused of raping a woman at gunpoint and throwing her off a bridge was captured in Sarasota County, ending a month-long manhunt, WBBH reports.

Melvin Williams, 20, was taken into custody after leaving a hotel he was staying at in Port Charlotte.

Authorities said Williams raped a woman at gunpoint on Aug. 26 before throwing her off a bridge in Fort Myers. 

Williams is a registered sex offender due to a prior conviction of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under 12-years-old by an offender under 18-years-old, stemming from an incident in April 2017.
