PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) — Troopers say a Port Richey motorcyclist was drunk when he hit a 2-year-old girl, stopped to argue with her parents and then drove away.

63-year-old Buddy Jay Kline was charged with DUI, failing to use due care, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say Kline was driving a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Oak Crest Drive at 7:51 p.m. on Sunday. Stacy F. Wegener, 58, of Port Richey was a passenger on the motorcycle.

Troopers say Kline approached children who were playing basketball in the roadway at 7316 Oak Crest Drive and hit a 2-year-old girl.

Investigators say Kline stopped and he and Wegener got off the motorcycle and started arguing with the parents of the 2-year-old girl. Kline and Wegener then drove away on the motorcycle.

The 2-year-old girl was airlifted to a local hospital with trauma alert status.

Troopers say a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputy located Kline as he pulled into his residence which is also on Oak Crest Drive. He was then arrested.

On Monday morning, the girl’s father told 8 On Your Side that she remains hospitalized and suffered a concussion.
