TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida child therapist has been jailed on 50 counts of child porn possession.

A spokesperson with the Tampa Police Department says cyber crimes investigators, assisted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, raided Alexander C. Smith’s office and home last Thursday.

Investigators say they found “multiple items of evidence” inside Smith’s Temple Terrace home as well as his clinic, ABCS Behavioral & Educational Services & Therapy at 8910 N. Dale Mabry Highway.

The 46-year-old licensed clinical social worker was arrested the following day, Feb. 22.

The Tampa Police Department Cyber Crimes Squad conducted an undercover internet investigation of a computer that was sharing child pornography over peer-to-peer networks.

A spokesperson with Tampa PD explained cyber crimes detectives were able to obtain warrants for Smith’s office and home after undercover officers had child porn shared to them directly from a computer that was traced back to both locations.

A U.S. Marshal’s Task Force was contacted and it has adopted the case.

Smith is listed as the clinical director at ABCS Behavior and Educational Services and Therapy. His bio reads he has worked with children and families for almost 20 years.

He was even awarded “Social Worker of the Year” by the Florida Association of School Social workers back in 2009.

Court records show Smith made his first appearance on Feb. 23. A judge gave him a $375,000 bond.

If he posts bond, court records show he is to have no contact with children, including any of his own.
