ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A second Florida man has been arrested and accused of using fraudulent deeds to steal homes.

The State Attorney’s Office charged Ernest Lee Peterson with scheme to defraud and unlawful filing of false documents or records against real or personal property.

This comes after a WFLA investigation into another St. Petersburg man, Jonathan Blue, who was arrested and accused of using fake deeds to acquire other homes in south St. Petersburg.

In both cases, the same woman, Brittany Varner, notarized the deeds. Those deeds show signatures of the property owner and show the properties were sold for $0.

The state attorney’s office alleges Peterson acquired two homes at 3142 17th Avenue S. and 2147 17th Avenue South without the knowledge of the owner.

The sales occurred in Oct. 2016.
