EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A family spokesperson said the stepmother of Gannon Stauch, the 11-year-old boy who disappeared more than a month ago from Colorado, has been arrested.
The family spokesperson said Leticia Stauch was arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina facing charges of first-degree murder of a child under 12 by person in position of trust, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with physical evidence.
She was arrested without incident at 8 a.m. by authorities from Colorado and South Carolina.
She will be held without bond in Horry County, South Carolina until her extradition back to Colorado Springs.
“I cannot stress enough what a difficult time this has been for Gannon’s family,” El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder said.
The sheriff said this was a “rapidly evolving” case that complex in nature.
Leticia told law enforcement she last saw Gannon between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 27 heading to a friend’s home in their suburban El Paso County neighborhood.
The boy’s body has not been found.
