OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Clemson University student, who was reported as missing from Pickens County earlier this week, was found dead in Tennessee, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed.
Pickens County deputies were searching for John Andrew Martin Jr., 21, who was last seen at a residence in the Clemson area at around 11 p.m. Sunday.
On Thursday afternoon, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office officials said Martin’s body was found in Sevier County, Tenn. along with his vehicle.
According to a news release from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, their office was contacted by Pickens County Sheriff’s Office about a possible missing person from their jurisdiction in Sevier County.
Pickens County Sheriff’s Office officials said detectives were able to track an IP address when Martin accessed his Clemson email account, which led them to a location in Sevier County, Tenn.
Sevier County deputies responded to an address on Paradise Ridge Drive, where they found a person, later identified as Martin, dead in his vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a rental cabin.
An autopsy has been ordered by the Sevier County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine an exact cause of death.
According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office news release, no foul play is suspected.
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation surrounding Martin.
“The prayers of the entire Pickens County Sheriff’s Office are with this family and I hope that people will respect their need for privacy as they deal with this tragedy,” Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said. “I would also like to give my sincere thanks to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee for their willingness to assist our Detectives during this investigation.”
