GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW) – A Georgetown County correctional officer has been arrested and is accused of sexual misconduct with an inmate.

Georgetown County Detention Center Correctional Officer Kasey Gamble, 31, was arrested by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday morning, according to a press a release from the GCSO.

An investigation started on Wednesday morning “after disturbing information was presented to the officials with Georgetown County Detention Center about a possible relationship between Officer Gamble and an inmate involving sexual contact,” said the release.

Detention center officers were reportedly presented “with a multitude of letters which were discovered outside the confines of the Detention Center.”

These letters were allegedly written to Officer Gamble from the inmate and were presented to officials by another correctional officer, officials say.

“At the time of the initial presentation of the letters, it was known that Officer Gamble was the owner of the letters and they were at one time in her possession but the content of the letters failed to directly implicate her because her name was not included,” stated the release. “However, known from the content was the identity of the inmate and the Detention Center had an active relationship between a female correctional officer and a male inmate involving sex, plans for children, and marriage upon the inmate’s release.”

The inmate was interviewed, “which eventually led to the confession of the fact he and Officer Gamble were in a relationship, he wrote the letters to Gamble, and the relationship had been intimate.”

On Thursday morning, Gamble “was interrogated at the Sheriff’s Office where she was presented with the evidence of her involvement with the inmate. After a short time, Gamble eventually admitted to her involvement with the inmate and corroborated the evidence.”

Gamble had been employed at the center since January 2018. She was terminated and was taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center. She is awaiting a bond hearing.

An investigation is ongoing.
