Police investigate suspicious death at downtown Charleston hotel

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WNCN) — The Charleston Police Department is investigating a suspicious death in downtown Charleston.

Officers responded to the Embassy Suites on the 300 block of Meeting Street on Saturday for the investigation.

The investigation is still pending while the coroner determines the cause of death.

The identification of the deceased will be withheld until family members are notified.

CBS affiliate WCSC reported the victim was a police officer with a California police department.

West Sacramento police spokesman Eric Angle confirmed to KXTV in Sacramento, Calif. that an officer from the department died while on vacation in Charleston.

No other details were available.
