Suspect dead after deputies respond to active shooter north of Charleston

HUGER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is responding an active shooter situation in the 1800 block of United Drive in Huger, officials said.

According to the Charleston County dispatch website, a call for assistance went out at 3:57 p.m. Officials said around 6:35 p.m. that the suspect was dead.

Witnesses earlier reported seeing dozens of police vehicles in the area of Highway 402, Clements Ferry Road and Highway 52.

Deputies later sent a picture on Twitter of a police vehicle with were more than 15 bullet holes in the windshield, saying they would release more information soon.

Officials said the police vehicle was shot up on Waterfowl Lane in Huger. Officials said that no deputies were injured.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office PIO Carli Drayton earlier said there is an active shooter situation but could not provide any further information.

BCSO is currently on scene of United Drive in Huger for an incident where shots have been fired. United Drive is currently closed to the public. Media staging will be the corner of United Drive and SC 41.
