Woman facing felony DUI charge after pedestrian killed in crash near Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – One pedestrian is dead and another is in the hospital after they were struck by two vehicles Sunday night. 

Ashlin Monteforte was identified as the woman who died, according to Michelle McSpadden with the Horry County Coroner’s Office. 

Monteforte died of injuries sustained on Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Hwy. 17 near Kings Road, McSpadden said.

Monteforte, 32, was living in the Myrtle Beach area. 

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, Alaina Marie Young has been charged in the crash. 

According to J. Reuben Long Detention Center booking records, Young is 34 and from the Sandy Springs, Georgia area.

She is charged with felony driving under the influence where death results. She was booked around 3:20 a.m. on Monday. 

Young received a $10,000 bond and was released around 4:45 p.m. on Monday, booking records show. 

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say the wreck happened when a Toyota traveling south on U.S. 17 struck one pedestrian, then a driver of a Nissan traveling south hit that person and another pedestrian before crashing into the rear of the Toyota around 8:10 p.m. 

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured. 

Both drivers had one passenger each. The passengers were not injured. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
