Young mom found dead in SUV, toddler children safe in back seat

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - Authorities are investigating a homicide in Richmond after a woman was found dead in a car on Friday night.

On Saturday, police identified the woman as 21-year-old Sherece Cook, of the 100 block of Pine Ridge Drive in Louisa.

Richmond Police received reports of random gunfire, which was upgraded to a person shot, in the area of Peyton Avenue off of Midlothian Turnpike.

An unidentified black female was found sitting in the driver seat of an SUV-style vehicle in the 3900 block of Peyton Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound, according to Richmond Police.

The vehicle was located in the middle of the street. Police said two children, under the age of three, were found unharmed sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

There is no suspect information at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
