SUV with hundreds of rounds of ammo catches fire on NC beach

FORT FISHER, N.C. (WECT) — A SUV with ammunition in the cargo area caught fire Saturday afternoon.

The Ford Explorer was on the beach at the Fort Fisher State Recreation area around 4:40 p.m. when it caught fire.

According to park ranger Patrick Amico, there were hundreds of ammunition rounds in the back area of the vehicle.

The fire is believed to have started due to the car overheating.

No injuries were reported.
