“Trying to find something to eat is like trying to win the lottery,” said Ronald Hunt, who lives in Lumberton.

Hunt and his family were enjoying a free hot meal when Ronald spoke with CBS North Carolina.

Hunt has a big family and said trying to find something to eat since the hurricane has been hard.

“Everything we had is lost,” he said. “Our refrigerators went down, all the meat that was in our storage went bad because we had no power.”

Sam’s Club and Operation BBQ Relief stepped in to help.

Hundreds of cars lined up throughout the day to get a taste of BBQ, string beans, and corn.

Gail Nobles, whose house flooded, gets emotional seeing the community come together in a time of need.

“It makes you want to cry,” she said. “We’ve never had this happen to us before and so many good people have come together to help.”

The meals and water are a big help for families worried about where their next meal is coming from.

“It makes us feel good inside,” said Hunt. “Our community coming together to help out each other, that’s the way the world needs to be.”

Sam’s Club said they’ve fed almost 20,000 people Friday and plan to feed another 20,000 Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
