SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A woman’s body was found early Wednesday morning in an abandoned home in the woods on Southeast Main Street in Simpsonville.

The coroner said Catherine Ann Blauvelt died from injuries sustained from a knife and her death is considered a homicide.

Blauvelt, 22, of Avalon Court was reported missing after family members didn’t see or hear from her for several hours.

Simpsonville police were notified about the “suspicious death” around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Her friends started searching for her and found her body in an old abandoned house that was a high school hangout, police say.

No one has lived in the home for more than 20 years, according to Chief Steve Moore.

Police say Blauvelt’s body was found in a small concrete cellar in the basement.

Simpsonville police announced Wednesday they were looking for Blauvelt’s vehicle.

Moore said that her vehicle, a 2011 Ford Fiesta, was recovered on White Horse Road around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
