WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP/WNCN) – Police in North Carolina are investigating a deadly incident at a road construction site in which a worker was killed.

Winston-Salem police tell news sources that workers were removing soundproof walls from a truck around 9:20 a.m. on Monday at a site on northbound U.S. Highway 421 at Peace Haven Road on the west side of Winston-Salem.

WFMY reported that a wall slat fell off the truck.

Lt. A.J. Santos says the worker became trapped under the material. WFMY later identified the victim as Amory Alexis Glover.

Santos said police are classifying the incident as a death investigation, adding that it involves an out-of-state company and driver.

Police told WFMY that Glover was a self-employed truck driver with Creekside Transport, driving for a company out of South Carolina.

Mary Katherine Revels, spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Labor, confirmed the agency is investigating the death.
