CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CNN Newsource) — Officials say a worker lost his hand while inspecting a ride at a North Carolina amusement park earlier this week.
The incident happened Wednesday morning at Carowinds, which is just south of Charlotte.
In a statement, Carowinds said a third-party contractor was doing an inspection on their Windseeker ride at the time.
The Windseeker takes riders up a 300-foot tower and spins them around on swings going up to 30 mph, the Carowinds’ website says.
Flint Hill fire officials told WSOC-TV that the worker was on top of the tower when his hand got caught in a pulley and it was severed.
The worker was lowered to the ground and was taken to a nearby hospital by York County Emergency Management, officials told WBTV.
In 2015, about 60 riders were stranded about 150 feet in the air on the Windseeker for about 15 minutes, the Charlotte Observer reported at the time. The ride was installed in 2012.
