Duke holds off determined Deacons 71-70 in Cameron thriller

DURHAM. N.C. (WNCN)-  Duke survived a determined Wake Forest Demon Deacon team Tuesday night with a 71-70 win on Senior Night.

RJ Barrett led the Blue Devils (26-4, 14-3) with 28. Tre Jones, who left the game briefly in the second half with an apparent knee injury, added 13 points.

Zion Williamson was out of the lineup for a fourth straight game with a sprained right knee, and Coach Mike Krzyzewski was non-committal on whether Williamson would play Saturday night against UNC.  He was more confident of him playing in the ACC Tournament next week.

Chaundee Brown had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and he pulled Wake Forest within 69-68 with two free throws with 43.9 seconds left. Duke bled the shot clock before the left-handed Barrett hit a right-handed jumper in the lane to put the Blue Devils up by three with 17.3 seconds remaining.

The Deacons had a chance to win with 7.4 seconds left in the game, but Brown’s game-winning attempt rimmed out at the buzzer.

Next up for the No.4 Blue Devils, a Saturday night matchup against No.3 North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
